Florian Ughetto and Liz Nunez, who run a wedding planning company in Dubai, UAE, are a lovely couple. Florian, who is French, and Nunes, who is Paraguayan, officially married in Georgia in 2019 due to legal difficulties in registering their marriage in Dubai. One of the downsides to this is that families on both sides cannot witness the events.

First Dimensional Marriage in Dubai

On May 19, they walked down the aisle again with their wedding in Metaverse, the first in Dubai and so far the third in the world. According to various media reports, the alliance held three commemorations: an in-person wedding in the garden of the couple’s friends in the Springs community, and a metaverse wedding in Decentraland with 20 guests from 10 countries , and a Zoom event for those attending weddings. Will not understand how Decentraland works.

Media reports quoted Ughetto as saying: “Our family is frustrated that they won’t be able to attend their 2019 wedding. Now that we have the technology in place to bring them together, we decided to explore it.”

Logistics and Practice

For the Metaverse event, the Dubai World Trade Centre Authority (DWTCA) has been designated as the regulator and a comprehensive area for virtual assets and crypto activities, next to the Metincubator, which provides technical logistics.

“As we walked down the aisles of The Springs, so did our avatars in the Metaverse… We practiced and trained our guests beforehand on how to log in and interact in the Metaverse, and we also had a few wedding spoilers joining last minute … but it’s all fun,” Ughetto added.

Clothing and Rings as NFTs

Florian and Liz’s Metaverse Marriage features a $100 costume and ring from OpenSea and a virtual reception. The Khaleej Times reported that when the bride Liz tried to enter the venue, the venue was so full that Florian had to ask guests to let Liz in by one of the people who had left the venue. A little unusual, but certainly a fun marriage moment!

The rings and clothing will remain on the couple as NFTs, and their marriage vows will become immutable as a smart contract.

“A few years from now, merging the two will be the norm [worlds], virtual and real… people will be able to connect with loved ones in mixed reality where distance is no longer a concern. It is possible to create unforgettable memories in a virtual world. Our wedding showed us that,” Liz said

Earlier this month, the Dubai Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA), which is linked to the DWTCA, purchased a piece of land in The Sandbox metaverse to open its virtual office. The acceptance of Bitcoin by businesses in Dubai is also growing steadily, with real estate giant Damac Properties being the latest to accept BTC and ETH.
