Two key staff members working for the Dogecoin Foundation recently wrote an article on the use of RadioDoge technology in conjunction with the Starlink satellite network to conduct DOGE transactions without the use of the Internet.

The team acknowledges there is still a long way to go, but has already laid the groundwork for future experiments. It includes connecting RadioDoge to the Dogecoin testnet via Starlink’s technical support.

Trade Dogecoin offline

Timothy Stebbing, head of product at the Dogecoin Foundation, and Michi Lumin, chief engineer at the foundation, have teamed up to develop a new communication network that will allow users to trade Dogecoin offline. It just needs the support of the Starlink satellite network created and owned by Elon Musk, the world’s richest dog fan.

According to the article, the key lies in a new technology called RadioDoge, an “cheap and reliable radio technology (HF/LoRaWAN)” that works with the Starlink satellite network to make it accessible to people without an internet connection.

Another key element is the GigaWallet project, a drop-in solution for internet-based transactions (a new type of Doge wallet) that integrates with the Dogecoin network through a standardized, non-custodial wallet.

The two developers see the first phase of Libdogecoin, a programming library or building block used to create the Dogecoin project, as the basis for forming and validating Doge addresses and transactions. They revealed that Dogecoin addresses created using the library have successfully received DOGE on the mainnet.

A long way to go

As specified by the team, the main challenge in getting GigaWallet to communicate with RadioDoge centers on whether Libdogecoin can do the heavy lifting. The first RadioDoge built last week will serve as a testing ground for new technologies.

The team said this week should see the first transactions formed using Libdogecoin sent to RadioDoge, which will submit them to the Dogecoin testnet via the Starlink satellite.

The pair argue that the new technology could revolutionize Dogecoin’s grassroots adoption in emerging economies, making the Musk-backed cryptocurrency “the de facto means of exchanging goods and services globally.” However, they admit that the first phase of Libdogecoin only accounts for 0.1 milestones of the project.
