Mark Zuckerberg confirms NFT feature launch for Instagram and Facebook

Meta (Facebook) CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a post that the non-fungible token (NFT) feature will be brought to Facebook and Instagram. These features will enable creators and collectors to showcase NFTs of their choice in their accounts and profiles. This feature will span Instagram and Facebook users.

According to reports, engineers at Meta will conduct an internal test of the NFT functionality starting this week.

Additionally, Meta plans to use its Spark AR studio tool to provide augmented reality support for NFTs in Instagram Stories. Although the company has confirmed the news, they have yet to reveal an official launch date for the NFT feature.

Meta and NFTs – how it all started

Back in March 2022, Meta’s CEO teased the feature, noting that the company was exploring the possibility of adding support for digital collectibles on its platform. Additionally, the CEO noted that Facebook could potentially gain NFT minting support in the coming months.

With the help of blockchain technology, the Meta NFT function may bring digital collectibles to over 3 billion monthly users worldwide. Additionally, the social media giant posted what collectors and creators can expect from the upcoming integration, which includes augmented reality in Instagram Stories.

Additionally, reliable sources have stated that Instagram will support NFTs powered by Solana, Ethereum, Flow, and Polygon. Additionally, Facebook rival Twitter recently revealed an NFT profile photo integration for its Blue service for paying users.
