Nicehash Software 'Fully Unlocks' Nvidia’s Hashrate Reducing Technology

On Saturday, cryptocurrency mining platform Nicehash revealed that the company has “completely [unlocked] Nvidia’s [Lite Hash Rate]” Graphics Processing Unit (GPU). Nicehash says the company’s Quickminer mining software is the first protocol that can 100% unlock LHR GPU cards.

Nicehash says software is first to fully crack Nvidia’s Lite hashrate technology

According to digital currency mining platform Nicehash, the company has developed software that fully unlocks Nvidia’s Lite Hash Rate-branded GPUs. “Nicehash has successfully unlocked locked-in computing power for millions of people around the world,” the company said Saturday. “We are the first LHR to fully unlock Nvidia.”

Nvidia unveiled its Lite Hash Rate (LHR) GPU cards in mid-May 2021 after the semiconductor giant said it wanted to return the chips to gamers. “We believe this additional step will bring more Geforce cards into the hands of gamers around the world at better prices,” an Nvidia spokesperson said at the time.

GPU maker rival AMD has also launched its first GPU dedicated to cryptocurrency mining, dubbed AMD Navi 12. When Nvidia introduced LHR technology, it applied the protocol to three of its proprietary GPU cards.


Started hacking Nvidia’s LHR tech a few months ago

Nicehash isn’t the only one able to remove Nvidia’s LHR technology. Last January, News reported on independent miners overcoming mining reduction techniques. The report further explained that Nicehash told that month that Nvidia’s LHR technology “didn’t stop miners at all.”

However, reports at the time indicated that miners bypassed a small portion of the LHR technology. An announcement from Nicehash on Saturday said the Quickminer mining software removed 100% of the LHR reducer.

“We are happy to tell you that Nicehash Quickminer (excavator) is the first mining software to fully (100%) unlock LHR cards,” said a blog post published by Nicehash. “Now, if you use an LHR graphics card with Nicehash Quickminer, you can make more profit than any other mining software on the market.”

Nicehash’s new software can unlock Nvidia’s LHR GPU cards, following recent charges against Nvidia by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). According to the SEC, Nvidia did not disclose that crypto mining increased revenue. The semiconductor company agreed to pay a $5.5 million fine for lack of disclosure.
