March. In 2022, South Korea’s largest mobile gaming company, Netmarble, officially launched its native blockchain ecosystem, MARBLEX (MBX). The move marks another major milestone in the company’s 22-year history, as MBX enables it to tap into the fast-growing game-to-money (P2E) and blockchain gaming markets.
As promised, the deployment of MARBLEX was fairly quick, with Netmarble’s flagship game A3: Still Alive becoming the first game to join the MBX platform by early April 2022.
A3 is just the beginning of a new era, though, as the company prepares to add more hit titles to MARBLEX in the coming months, including Monstra Arena and Ni No Kuni (Cross Worlds).
So how does MARBLEX’s integration with Netmarble’s wider gaming ecosystem work? Let’s try to find out using A3: Still Alive as a case study.
A3: Still Alive integrates blockchain technology
For those unaware, A3: Still Alive is a mobile MMORPG released globally in 2020 by Netmarble (publisher) and Netmarble N2 (developer).
The game is set in an apocalyptic fantasy world where players compete against each other to complete new missions and engage in extreme battle royale combat. The ultimate goal is to overcome every challenge encountered and stay alive for as long as possible (hence the aptly chosen moniker, A3: Still Alive).
Netmarble prides itself on A3 as a game that showcases superb rendering and high-quality 3D graphics. And now, with the implementation of a new update called “Alive X Earn: Breaking the Barriers Between Gaming and Reality,” it has morphed into a money-making game.
With this move, A3 has now expanded its reach beyond the core gaming community to appeal to the crypto community and P2E fans.
To understand how the P2E part of A3 works, we first need to understand how MARBLEX works.
MARBLEX (MBX): Under the hood
MARBLEX is a blockchain ecosystem based on the Klaytn mainnet, designed to bring the benefits of blockchain technology to the wider Netmarble ecosystem. It focuses on increasing organic player engagement by rewarding player engagement and in-game activities.
The MBX team is confident to utilize the efficient performance of the Klatyn Chain to process game content transactions at optimal speed while ensuring reliability and transparency.
Two key components of the Marblex blockchain ecosystem are the MARBLEX Token ($MBX) and the MARBLEX Wallet.
Here are some important details about the $MBX token:
As for the MBX wallet, you can use it to store supported assets, including NFTs and all game tokens issued by Netmarble games. Some supported tokens include $MBX, $KLAY, $MBX, $MBXL, $GAME and the INETRIUM token ($ITU).
On this topic, the INETRIUM token ($ITU) is another key component that powers the financial aspects of A3: Still Alive. It is a utility token on MBX that players can use to buy/exchange in-game items.
You can use the MARBLEXWallet to convert $ITU to $MBX, the main currency of the MARBLEXecosystem, which can then be traded or sold outside the game via centralized and decentralized exchanges. In other words, you can sell your in-game assets and tokens outside the game via $MBX.
Check out the infographic below to see what the MBX team is working on right now and what the next phase of development you can look forward to in the coming months. Overall, so far, the team has done a good job of sticking to their early commitments.
So yes – this is basically how the TL;DR version of the blockchain and INETRIUM integration adds more to the gameplay and overall experience that A3: Still Alive offers.
In a recent AMA session with the BeInCrypto community, A3 Product Manager Jae (@A3StillAlive_KIM) said:
“Since the launch of INETRIUM, the number of new users of A3 has grown substantially tenfold. It was a surprise for all of us.”
So, obviously, the addition of the P2E element is based on the company’s own assessment.
Of course, we’ve barely scratched the surface of the entire evolution currently taking place in the Netmarble universe. The underlying technology and mechanics are far more complex, which is what you’d expect from an ecosystem as large and granular as Netmarble’s.
We plan to review the technical aspects of A3: Still Alive’s blockchain integration in greater depth in the coming weeks. Until then, try checking out the MARBLEX white paper for more details.
