Twitter and Stripe roll out USDC payout program for creators via Polygon

On Friday, Twitter and Stripe announced the launch of Stripe Connect for crypto payments. As the companies say, a select group of creators on Twitter will soon be able to earn their earnings in the form of the U.S. Dollar Coin (USDC) stablecoin on the platform. Payments will be made through the Polygon (MATIC) network, a layer 2 blockchain known for its low fees, fast transaction speeds, innovative zero-knowledge technology, and integration with Ethereum (ETH).

As a centralized platform, content creators and freelancers first need to expedite the know-your-customer onboarding checks that Stripe does. After that, they can manage their account details, track real-time earnings and upcoming payments to their crypto wallets.

By the end of this year, Twitter and Stripe plan to expand the program to more than 120 countries. Regarding development, Esther Crawford, Twitter’s head of creator product, commented:

“We’re excited to start offering crypto payments to creators through Stripe, so they have more options for getting paid.”

At the time of launch, Twitter was becoming the target of a “hostile takeover” by billionaire entrepreneur and Tesla CEO Elon Musk. As Musk said, if his bid for the company is successful, his first commitments are to reduce the number of cryptocurrency scam tweets circulating on the platform and possibly introduce a Dogecoin (DOGE) payment option for its Twitter Blue monthly subscription service.
